Action This Day
Leaving no stone unturned.
Coming 1/1/2025…
Welcome to Action This Day – a single, simple, short action item. It is something that I’m doing that you might want to too. There will be ideas on investing, consumption, fitness, and travel. Whatever is on my mind that I think is worth doing. My hope and expectation is that this subscription will easily pay for itself with money making and saving ideas while allowing me a bit of self-indulgence on other stuff of personal interest. The common thread is that these 1) have positive expected value, 2) that they are edgy in terms of information and judgment, and 3) that they can be acted on that day. I research obsessively with about 100 ideas that I consider for each that I act on. Sometimes this is lucrative. Other times it is just embarrassing because I spend so much time and energy on every decision that I occasionally violate minimum wage laws (if they applied to paying myself) in overthinking small things. So this allows me to share and scale what I find. I hope you like it.
My existing paid subscription Substack costs $10k per year (although is temporarily half off), so is probably one of the most expensive ones on the platform (intentionally so as the scale for that opportunity is so finite). It isn’t for everyone, requiring $250k of liquidity from accredited investors for an illiquid five-year project.
Action This Day is the other end of the spectrum: $1 per day. For everyone. Scalable ideas. They should (more than) pay for themselves over time. I often write that my only recommendation is that I recommend thinking for yourself and doing your own work. Here’s a venue that shouldn’t require more work than you want to do. It won’t be developed arguments, just light assertions that you can take or leave. I read white papers but, here at least, will be writing a tabloid. When I do something for reasons I find compelling, I’ll mention it here in the casual way I might mention to a friend at the gym or on a run. I hope that it will have a broad audience and offer a terrific value, even if you act on only one in ten ideas.
As they occur to me, you will get a new post to act on as you want. Weekday items will tend to be financial; weekends will tend to be fitness. My goal is for each to be worth far more than it cost. It isn’t intended to require expertise or effort on your part. This one’s for everyone.
